How to find your ideal pole length?
Finding the correct pole length makes a big difference in comfort, efficiency, and joint protection during your hikes. The most reliable method is to set your poles so that your elbow forms a 90-degree angle when the pole tip touches the ground and your hand is on the grip.
On steep uphill sections, you may prefer slightly shorter poles for better leverage. On downhill or flat terrain, many hikers extend them a bit longer for better stability and less strain on knees and shoulders.
Always test the length with your backpack on, as it changes your posture. The best pole length is the one that feels natural and allows you to maintain a good upright posture while walking.
With our adjustable VICU poles (100–135 cm), you can easily fine-tune the length to match every adventure.
Below you can find a rough estimate of pole length compared to height. Keep in mind this is a suggestion and you should always pick the length that works best for you.
